Johnny's Vintage Archives

HomeWelcomeJan 14, 2008
Welcome to my vintage page. For a few years now I have been interested in the classic nude photography from the turn of the century up to the 1920’s. Most of the risqué photos from this time period were either produced in the forms of postcards or trading cards that came in such things as cigarette packs. The photographer who first piqued my interest was Alfred Cheney Johnston who photographed the Ziegfeld Follies girls. My friend Jane has set up a wonderful site documenting the history of the Follies and of ACJ’s photography. It’s a treat that is well worth checking out.

I’ve spent hours sorting through various web pages trying to collect the best quality photos of both ACJ’s photography and various vintage French postcards. The majority of the sites that I’ve seen have had a random sampling with no order or consistency of the quality of copies. The page that you’re now on is the site I always wanted to visit. The postcards are broken down by the studio that produced them and, when known, in the order that they were released. Every picture has been re-cropped, repaired if possible, and resized to a consistent dimension. While the quality of many of the photos are still lacking, each one is the best copy I have managed to find on the net. At times the decision had to be made to either put up a picture of poor quality or no picture at all. If better copies surface I will update when able.

For those of you who know I from the TAYB this page may be a surprise from what you expect from me, or maybe it won’t if you know I’m not predictable. For those of you unfamiliar with the TAYB, it’s probably best it stays that way. It’s a page dedicated to questionable humor at best, but still funny as far as I’m concerned.

Due to the sites policies the mass of the photos are for contacts only. If you’d like to become a contact send me an email with a brief description of who you are and you’re interest in the photos. By becoming a contact you agree that while you’re allowed to download any of the photos freely that you will not use them for commercial purposes without permission, nor post them on other sites.

Outside of that, enjoy and let me know what you think of the page.

I've always taken pride of my images as being the highest quality on the net.  Each one has been restored as well as possible depending on the original scan resolution and quality of the jpg.  No matter how good or bad a copy, it's... more

Dear Johnny,
Thanks, first off, for all the time you're pouring into this hobby. We may be of a like mind. I enjoy the old black and white movies of the '30s and '40s, especially the movies centered on the Ziegfeld girls. Thank goodness for Ted Turner. Please keep these historical beauties alive.
Yours truly,
Keith

You've done amazing work here! There original sequences work like a dream. Glancing through them, I keep seeing what look like the same faces pop up time and time again. I wonder how many active models there actually were? Any chance you could get some facial recognition software...?
